Principal's Message

McNabb Families,

Welcome back to what will be another exciting school year.  I hope you had a wonderful summer filled with adventures and relaxation.  As your principal, I am thrilled to be a part of this community and continue to help build on the tradition of excellence in Montgomery County. I have spent 23 years as a Kentucky educator and the last 13 years as a school district administrator.  I feel blessed to begin my second year at McNabb Middle School!

Middle school is a time of change for all students. They will see an increased academic workload, social adjustments, and new opportunities to grow and learn. Student success is paramount at McNabb. We will focus not only on each student’s intellectual development but also strive to develop the social, emotional, mental, and physical well-being of our Tribe. We desire independent thinkers and problem solvers who embrace a growth mindset.

Secondly, McNabb’s Open House will be on Thursday, August 8th. Sixth grade begins at 5:00 p.m. and concludes at 6:00 p.m. The returning 7th and 8th-grade students’ open house will begin immediately afterward from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Expect to visit your child’s classrooms and be sure to introduce your family to your child’s teachers.

Schedules will be available for pick-up at Open House but will also be accessible via Infinite Campus beginning Thursday, August 8th.  Any student unable to attend Open House can stop by the Front Office following the event leading up to the first day of school.  Requests for schedule changes can be made starting Monday, August 19th.

Parents of NEW students transporting your child to and from school must stop by the gym to obtain a Parent-Pickup number.  All returning students will be able to continue to use their parent pickup number from last year.  If your NEW student has a sibling with a Parent-Pickup number, they can be added to the existing car tag.  Staff members from the Nutrition and Transportation Departments and our School Nurse will be accessible during Open House. McNabb spirit wear items will be available to purchase in the gym.  Be sure to stop by and visit the tables in the gym during Open House.

The 2024-25 academic year will see a seven-period day, including four core classes, two co-curricular classes, and a common Tribe Time each day.  We hope each student becomes involved in activities and organizations outside of the classroom.  Parents, please encourage your child to explore joining one of our many clubs, student organizations, sports teams, and other campus activities.  We will update our school website with this information and communicate opportunities over the coming weeks.  Our Facebook page, J.B. McNabb Middle School, will also stay updated with information.

On a typical school day, we will open doors at 8:05 a.m., allowing students to eat breakfast before their first period.  All students in Montgomery County receive breakfast and lunch at no cost.  Students will have the option to eat a grab-n-go breakfast as they enter the building. McNabb’s academic day is 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  After school, the only students permitted to walk across campus to the high school are students participating in a high school sports or choral/band activity.  Those students will require a parent note, resulting in a walking pass.  Any transportation change requests must be made to the front office before 2:00 p.m.  The daily academic schedule is as follows:

1st Period         8:30 a.m. - 9:24 a.m.
2nd Period        9:28 a.m. - 10:22 a.m.
3rd Period         10:26 a.m. - 11:01 a.m. (Tribe Time)
4th Period         11:05 a.m. - 11:59 p.m. (6th & 8th-grade lunch)
5th Period         12:03 p.m. - 1:27 p.m. (7th-grade lunch)
6th Period         1:31 p.m. - 2:25 p.m.
7th Period         2:29 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
